 "The Graduation"

"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15)

Throughout our lifetime we attend or participate in some form of graduation. Kindergarten, always the cutest, middle school, high school and of course college, but I'll leave the best for last. Through the years, Shauna and I have attended all the graduation types that I mentioned previously, whether it was our own kids or close friends and family. On December 17th, 2011, we attended my eldest son's graduation from Virginia State University. As we stood there and watched as he received his degree with honors, I can truly say that not only did I feel elated but blessed. In order to make it to any graduation or attain any form of degree, years of hard work and study will result in the latter. So to my son "Big up" and one love. I'm proud of you of what you have already accomplished, and may God continue to bless you in everything that you do.

The final graduation which is not of this earth seems to miss many of us. We do not put in the years of hard work and study that is a major requirement. We are given the ultimate studying guide which is the B.I.B.L.E; Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth, but time has always been an excuse. I'll be first to say that has always been my excuse. Recently, our pastor gave the congregation an assignment to  read the entire Bible in three months or for those with less time a year. For Shauna and I the year seems to be more feasible, but we're doing it and being blessed by it. It has reminded me of Psalm 30:5, which says, "For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning." So we'll keep on studying.

Now, I personally cannot wait for the final and ultimate Graduation, but I know we have some more studying to do, so pray for us as we pray for you. I can see it now, as far as the eyes can see, white robes upon white robes standing in line waiting to hear your name called. Waiting to see my Lord's face as he gives out that eternal degree. And to hear Him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord." (Matthew 25:21)

Ricky and Shauna Carty started writing "By Faith" in November 2001, to witness to others about the power of God to reconcile broken marriages. By Faith in God, Ricky and Shauna reunited in marriage after a two-year separation. Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of their faith, they found forgiveness, peace, and continue to live their lives seeking first the kingdom of God. Some installments of "By Faith" can be found in the devotianal book,Green Pastures: A collection of Devotionals, Testimonies & Reflections.
